Missing You
My heart aches with sorrow,as tears run down my face
thinking of your final resting place.
It hurts me to know that
I will never feel the warmth of your embrace,
the passion that passes between us as we kiss.
Lying next to you sharing our thoughts,
dreams and hopes for the future is what I really miss.
At night, I want to reach out and hold you-
but all I touch is air.
There is no one to hold me a night,
no one to make me feel safe and secure,
no one to wipe the tears from my face,
as I lie awake thinking of your final resting place.
For I am truly, deeply
missing you!
This Poems Story
The inspiration for my poem came from the recent death of my husband from leukemia in June of last year. We were only married for eight months when he was diagnosed on July 17, 2011. Shortly after that, we had our one-year anniversary on October 10, 2011. He went through eight rounds of chemo, started showing improvements, but not for long. In April of 2012, he was in intensive care for about three weeks and made a full recovery. Sadly in May, he went for a check-up and the cancer showed progression; so, they kept him. After that, it was all downhill. On June 9, 2012 at 8:16 PM, he took his last breath. Writing this poem helped me cope with my grief and allowed me to share it with others.
