Misunderstood, But Holding On

Misunderstood, But Holding On

We’ve had our storms and shattered nights,
our tangled words, our quiet fights.

So much was lost in what we said,
so much stayed silent in our head.

One small remark, misunderstood,
built walls where open hearts once stood.

You thought my love had slipped away,
I feared you’d drift too far to stay.

A mother breaks where no one sees,
in quiet rooms, on tired knees.

A daughter breaks in louder ways,
in storms she fights through fragile days.

But nothing aches a mother more
than feeling shut outside your door.

And nothing shakes my soul today
like fear love’s slipping far away.

That little boy, my light, my grace,
the joy I’d cross the world to chase.

I never meant to cause you pain,
or make you guard your heart again.

I pray one moment, said in fear,
won’t cost the love I hold so dear.

Misunderstanding built this wall,
but love still answers every call.

A mother’s love won’t fade or sway
please don’t let fear take us away.

This Poems Story

This poem comes from a place deep in a mother’s heart. It’s about the moments when love gets tangled in fear, when words get misunderstood, and when silence hurts more than anything said out loud. It’s about the kind of fights mothers and daughters have the ones that leave both sides hurting, both sides scared, and both sides wishing they could take things back. It’s about how a mother’s heart aches quietly, how she breaks in places no one sees, and how she still loves with everything she has. It’s also about the fear of losing the people who mean the most especially a grandchild who brings light, hope, and purpose. It’s a reminder that misunderstandings shouldn’t steal love, and that family bonds are worth fighting for, even when they feel fragile. This poem isn’t about blame. It’s about love surviving pain, love surviving fear, love surviving the moments we wish we could redo. It’s my truth, my heart, and my hope that love will always find its way back.
