Mother Land
Motherland Momma,
What I thought was an attempted abortion was actually
A kidnapping,
They surrounded our hut
And ripped me from you
Then rocked me to sleep,
With bed time tales of your abandonment
So I’d hate you
I cried momma,
Tears of turmoil
In the putrid damps of their depths
In the dried sands of their cold souls
To the solemn nights, and the distant stars
And to you
For a while
I heard you
Through the crashing of the waves
Beneath the shadows of the trees
But soon
Your voice simply combined with the wind
And got lost behind the distances that separated us
We became estranged
I became lost momma
Looking for something I wasn’t sure existed
In the first place
I questioned my most core
The gifts I received from you
Now squawked nevermore
I became a man momma
Cursed with the black of shame
And I paid for it
Every day of my life
Stuck In a state of ignorance to
Who is, and
What is
Momma
What is this buzzing?
Deep within my memory
Momma?
Your voice whispers
“I’m coming to your rescue
With my utility belt and cape
Soon
You may not remember my name
Or my touch
But you remember my womb”
I do momma
I remember a time when we were one
“Of course you do” she says
“You remember
Because you are my son”
