Mrs. Oak

Swaying to and fro the trees outside of my window bend to the will of the wind
Sunlight breaking through the canopy, dancing along the branches and leaves.
Creating a visual melody of life and existence.
Oh to be one of the long tall sentinels to see the forest grow and change, season by season, year by year
Roots intertwined in the unseen floor. This is a community full of animation.
As I walk under the trees, I hear the birds conversing through song.
Insects chirping and fluttering this way and that
But as I ponder the trees. Almost overlooked in their great mass. They move in their own way.
Slowly bending with the light wind. Providing shelter, shade, safety to all the lesser beings ‘round
One large oak catches my attention. Forked low lies the trunk. Two long trunks disappear into the canopy.
Mrs. Oak enjoys the shining day in mid-June. Her limbs push slowly forward. Her leaves spread and grow to capture more of the unfiltered light above the ruckus.
She has lived a longer life than I. Her beauty presses me to understand that I too am just another creature that she has shaded and caressed over the years. She is not my tree just because she resides on my land
I am simply a traveler who has taken the time to think in her presence.
