Ode to Alcohol

To the companion I've had for so many years
The ode to alcohol or on my case so many beers
I've loved, lost, cried, laughed, endured, and inflicted
pain
Though nary a memory good or left with any
gain
Nights spent so countless I don't believe
I want at night my soul be relieved
I'm certain it will be a long journey to ascend
My sobriety will on only me truly depend
The things given to me I so easily lost
By the corruption of illusion I paid the highest cost
There's truly no way of blaming anybody else but me
I'm responsible for this addiction, 'No demon I set you free'
Not out on the world just out of my soul for good
Even when temptation surrounded me I understood
Wish me well I ask of you my fair weather friend
I do not want to fall to an abyss to slowly descend
