Red Light Thoughts

By Nick J

I leave my past in the ash of this one last cigarette.
Driving fast, try to laugh, but I still can't forget you yet.
You're in my heart, you're on my brain,
I wrote your name on my veins-
I try to wash away the pain, like a stain it remains.

Were you ever really here?
Now you're gone.
My fists clench like I'm holding on.
I open myself up to find,
There's nothing inside,
An empty palm.
