Remembrances
The crack is nearly audible so I reach inside my chest to
Pull my ribs and splay them wide,
Exposing what you held,
But crushed into refuse matter.
Amidst childish games and iris melodies
Our laughter rings in my ears.
Only it turns sour, bitter tones that shriek.
Pale ghosts pierce my skull with icy fingers,
Screaming for remembrances.
Like you, sweet and young,
Face fresh with morning.
Memory doesn't favor that you.
