There was no need for the phone to ring,
Those words screamed at me, chased me, taunted me for months.
A hole turned into an emptiness, a depth with outstretched arms.
The end of him was the unraveling of me.

I met love with destruction,
Raging against anything allowing me to feel something.
The void would flourish, branching out
Creating the perfect path to isolation.

Then, she grew.
The smallest hand wrestled me out of the grip.
Kicking inside, she began to show me a love I'd never known,
And, as she grew, the dark and broken places
Were met with radiance.

When her screams sliced through the air
The happiest of tears fell and as I took her to my chest,
My heart was still.
In a moment, I finally laid him to rest
As she brought me back to life and her sounds quieted the storm.
