Roots

My mother never taught me,
to live as if vicarious.
That's why at first glance,
I thought it was hilarious.

That some of my friends,
let their dogs lick their face.
And some of their friends,
married outside their race.

My father failed to mention,
he cried when I was born.
And so I grew up thinking,
that men were weak to mourn.

Which is far from the truth.
And now I finally see.
That all forms of hatred,
have a similar ancestry.

Ignorance, the predator.
And all of us are prey.
The reason we hate those,
who live a different way.

So don't assume oppression,
from girls that like to cover.
And don't assume frailty,
from men that like each other.
