September

The fall breaks out its earthy theme
Ready for the moon's embrace
Gathering the season's deck and ace
In the realization of their dream

Birds show distress at the bitter gleam
Of hunter's rifle and fisherman's case
The crows spread out in stilted grace
As the farms are plowed on the farmers' steam

The loads grow broader by the stream
The ferns relinquish their moonstruck face
And swans deliver their succulent lace
Back to the bank filling the failing sun's beam

To demonstrate sublime surrender
Means to recreate a fleet September
