The Knight’s Corpse
Fixed, still, like a statue there you lie,All your brothers who watched you die,
They left too, not with their lives.
On the prairie there you’ll find,
A defender whose death was poorly timed.
Across the leg he was stricken,
The Mother kept his vessel well hidden.
Left for the bugs, he was soon bitten.
Helmet still on to cover what’s rotten,
His name? Who knows it’s been forgotten.
His gloves hold flowers, they are alive,
His soul was stained, he took the dive.
How many centuries ago? He’d say five.
He didn’t get to say goodbye,
Although he never will I’m sure he tried,
His family at home all left to cry.
The human will to survive,
An unmoving spirt left to thrive,
Too bad he’s dead, I bet he was a great guy.

It was inspired from a painting I had the luck of viewing. In the painting there lyes a knight struck on the ground, you can tell he knows he will die by the look in his eyes.
