The Lost Poets (defenders of thought)

Yes - Yes - these are my heroes
The lyric poets, street poets and dub poets
Defenders of thought
Those they put in prison for a 3 piece poem
The creator of sound, words and poetry
Against rejection and adversity
They stood strong like the Pagoda tree
Creative minds the world would never understand
Those who died without receiving a helping hand
Here I’ll mention some of them
Aquatic Nocturne by Sylvia Plath
Genius Child by Langston Hughes
I died for beauty, but was scarce
Adjusted in the tomb
When one who died for truth was lain
In an adjoining room wrote Emily Dickinson
Well, dis poem shall say nothing new said brother Mutabaruka
On a heavy and steady reggae riddim flow, LKJ tells the pain he felt in Sonny’s Lettah
Over yonder the mystic Akae Beka chants Propaganda
Their poems resonate in our eardrum
My heart walk slow like the bass and drum
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary said Edgar Allan Poe
Yet, Still I Rise thanks to Maya Angelou
And look upon myself, and curse my fate
A sonnet there a sonnet here - but I’m not Shakespeare
When no man died for freedom anywhere
As Oscar Wilde quoted in Quantum Mutata
These are just a few, there are many more
Remember the defenders of thought
The battles they fought
The knowledge they brought
And the power of unification they taught
