The Price of Free

The Price of Free

I’m was walking along the riverbank
Watching the sun go down
It’s hard to imagine even one little frown
But my mind seems to be miles and miles away
While people go about their every day
Just doing what they always do
Spending money like it’s nothing
Complaining about the little things
when they already have everything

As I stood there watching the waves come in
A big ole ship comes passing by
I started to think about the ones
Who were lost at sea
Fighting to keep this country free
Free to be who I want to be
Free to speak my mind
Free to praise the Lord
And free to read His Holy word

It’s time we open our hearts to see
The price of free
And when we do
We will find that we already knew
The cost is blood stained rain
Relentless pain
Tears of fears
From all the mommas and daddys
Wondering if their baby’s coming home
And boxes of precious memories
That will never be filled
This is the price of free

As the river takes a turn
I walk on to this old gravel road
Still not sure where I’m suppose to be
I’m just following my heart
Wherever it wants me
But my mind seems to be miles and miles away
While people go about their every day
Just doing what they always do
Spending money like it’s nothing
Complaining about the little things
When they already have everything

The moon and the stars
Begin to come out in the night
I’ve never seen them shine so bright
Kids are being tucked into their beds
Without a worry in their little heads
I could hear a plane
Flying high into the sky
I started to think about the ones
Who were shot down
Fighting to keep this country free
And one day free of hate
But not free of love
Because love is what this country was built upon
The love of it’s people
And the love of God

It’s time we open our hearts to see
The price of free
And when we do
We will find that we already knew
The cost is blood stained rain
Relentless pain
Tears of fears
From all the mommas and daddys
Wondering if their baby’s coming home
And boxes of precious memories
That will never be filled
This is the price of free

As the gravel began to fade away
So goes the month of May
I took a seat on the railroad to nowhere
I was pulling off my boots
When I started to think about the ones
Who lost their lives just walking on the ground
Trying not to make a sound
Trying not to be found
Fighting to keep this country free
Free to be who I want to be
Free to speak my mind
Free to praise the Lord
And free to read His Holy word

Sometimes we forget
the little moments of life all the time
But how can anybody ever forget
The courage, the sheer determination,
Or the love that they gave
And the sacrifices that they made
Because these are the moments
That define who we are as a nation
And these are the moments
That will never die
These are the moments
That will forever be
A part of you and me

So whenever you see a ship passing by
Whenever you hear a plane
Flying high into the sky
Or whenever you pull off those boots
Remember the ones
Who fought to the very end
Until their last dying breath
The ones who fought to keep this country free
But more importantly
The ones who fought for you and me
It’s time we open our hearts to see
The price of free

This Poems Story

This is for all the soldiers who fought to keep this country free and all the families who prayed they would come home safe.
