The Rescue

A clap of thunder awoke me with a start, I became only conscious of my thumping heart.
My senses returned to me, So I flicked on a light, wishing to see.
I darted my eyes from place to place, As if expecting to see an unknown face.
Everything in my head screamed fear, But complete nothingness was all I could hear.
I hopped out of bed and ran to the sink, Splashing cold water on my face as I tried to blink.
I looked outside and saw the pounding of the rain, But even that didn't calm the pain.
It was only two in the morning, the middle of the night, Yet I knew right now, sleep would not win the fight.
I found myself in front of my bookshelf, Holding many books that failed to calm myself.
Slowly, my eyes drifted over to my desk, There sat a book a hadn't wanted to read or risk.
My friend had given it to me the other day, She told me the Author of it would take my fear away.
I walked over and picked up the leather-covered book, Figuring it wouldn't hurt to have just one look.
I flipped it open and saw "John" at top of the page, I hoped this book would finally unlock me from my cage.
Before I knew it I was on to chapter three, When I reached the end of this chapter, it hit me.
I had heard about this Man, this Son, But I never realized what He had done.
He said He came so we could have life, That means I don't have to live in this strife.
Before I knew what I was doing I fell to my knees, I started just saying, "forgive me, please!"
Something crazy happened then, As I felt Him take away my sin.
I felt an overwhelming rush of love and grace, Because I knew that He died in my place.
Then in a second my thoughts went from joy to shame, I felt completely horrible until I spoke His name.
When I said His name, perfect peace surrounded me, I realized I was saved, and at last, free!
My life was totally transformed from that moment, It became on Him completely dependent.
I had salvation from the only One that saves us, The Name of Him is none other than Jesus.
