The Thing That Killed You
The thing that killed you
Is all I see in this image I picture
Smoke dancing into view
Now a permanent fixture
Your laugh echoing
The crimson liquid stirred
A clap on the table breaking out in a ring
Your speech getting slurred
The thing that killed you
Making the perfect mixture
Of your being
Since you couldn't be cured
Is all I see in this image I picture
Smoke dancing into view
Now a permanent fixture
Your laugh echoing
The crimson liquid stirred
A clap on the table breaking out in a ring
Your speech getting slurred
The thing that killed you
Making the perfect mixture
Of your being
Since you couldn't be cured

This Poems Story
This poem is about a family friend, who was like a grandmother to me, who died of cancer. Every time I picture her, she is laughing loudly, slapping her hand against the dining room table, almost spilling her wine in the process, and holding a lit cigarette. This one is for you Nancy. Rest in Peace.
