Whiskey Relief

By J. Wood

It lifts me up and knocks me down,
I find my face on the ground.
Helps me cope with the pain,
Memories of her are like a stain.
A storm took her away from me,
Can't figure out how this can be.
I drown my life everyday,
Lord why couldn't she have stayed.
This is what I've become,
Known to others as a bum.
You can think what you like,
But this is me in my fight.
I've become weak and frail,
Without her my life is hell.
If I can hold her one more time,
Tears of joy is what you'll find.
Now it's time to face the truth,
My last breath will show the proof.
Love can break the strongest of men,
And bring a life to an end.

This Poems Story

After a conversation with a homeless man in Baton Rouge, La. I felt compelled to write this poem. From the pain in his eyes my pen bled tears of ink.
