Wishing to Be Normal

My tongue became swollen, my breath was stolen,
my eyes were bloodshot, my cheeks blew up a lot.

Life with food allergies can be hard, it makes a big bill on your credit card.
I spend hours looking at a food label, before it goes on my table.

It's hard to have dinner at my friend's house, I check for chemicals on my blouse,
birthday cake is not for me, instead I have a cup of tea.

I wish I could eat whatever I want, ice cream, pizza, and a croissant.
I wish I didn't have to carry a bulky EpiPen and hear, "You're allergic to thirteen foods?!" again and again.

I'm not on a diet or the latest fad, to hear the rumors makes me really sad.
I have allergies that I can't change, it's not something I can rearrange.

People think they're hiding their feelings from me, but trust me I can see.
I know inside they're really scared, but I promise you I'm prepared.

People leave me out a lot, I'm still normal, at least I thought
But they're scared I'll have an allergic reaction, it makes me feel out of the faction.

I don't want to be remembered as an allergy, remember my fun personality.
I don't want to be labeled by what I can't eat, I just want to be normal, I repeat.

I promise I'm just a normal girl, I can still laugh, jump, and twirl.
I love the movies, roller rinks, and the mall, my love measured in inches is very tall.

I wish I could fit into the group, in a bowl of Cheerios, I'm the Fruit Loop.
I'm normal just like you, I want to be treated the way you are too.
