Would you have me mourn you?
You, my defender of the Constitution,
You, my brother, my father, my son, my lover-
Would you have me mourn you?

Are you waiting for that meeting in the light,
That welcome of your men in arms?
And would you have me mourn you?

As I have loved you in this life,
Would you have me mourn you
For a life well-lived and a love well-given,
My sweet and loyal friend?

I will not mourn you at the end,
But will ever keep you in my heart
Till we meet again in that bright light.

Rest easy my friend for I will not mourn you;
