Dream Big

By Cashin

Subtle dreams beneath the blacktop,
Underneath them—swirl metaphor and rhyme,
Bouncing basketball and our laughter in the park,
Time stretched out while us kids reached for the rim.
Evenings till dusk, a ritual of rhythm and sweat,
Rise to shoot, 'Mike Jordan!' for verses climbing to a crescendo.
Repetition became our teacher, each missed shot a stanza,
And finally, the day came—a 1 80 slam dunk,
Nifty exhilaration, a metaphorical boom.
Epic triumph resounds like onomatopoeia,
Assertive in my accomplishment, i found my style.
Now i seek that same thrill with my poetic voice:—
Open hearts palm the dreams we score,
Kindred spirits ball, hogging up the lane.

This Poems Story

This poem is about how playing basketball and writing poetry are connected in my life. It uses the game of basketball as a way to talk about dreams and growing up.
