Farewell my Friend
The battle is almost at its end
For the young soldier turns and smiles to his beloved friend
Soon the order of charge will come
And forward into the battlefield the soldiers will run
Memories of a love that he left so far behind
How can this war be so unkind ?
For the young soldier has so much will to survive
Just the memory of his friends and family has kept him alive
The dark clouds gather as the bugle blows
Within this grim moment all the birds have flown
Now with the sound of the battle cry
They run toward the enemy but so many of them will die
Burt’s of fire ring out in silence in the cold morning air
For some men have now fallen hear the call of death they now share
So many cries of pain as the battle rages on
The young soldier turns to his friend but he too has now gone
With droplets of tears he marches forward against all odds
Silently he prays to his beloved god
Bullets fly past as he surges into the ranks of the enemy
For the minutes tick slowly by will he ever be set free ?
The young soldier kills with so much hurtful revenge that he has deep inside
But this does not cure all the pain he feels he no longer can hide
One final burst he rages on with tears running down his bloody face
As the silence now falls upon this war torn place
At last the battle has reached its final bitter end
As he stands all alone looking back for his beloved friend
But sadly he has gone like so many who have fallen by the way
For this young soldier will never forget this terrible day
What price has peace come to this war torn land
As he stands on parade before his royal command
No medals can relieve him of the pain he feels so deep
For in his dreams the memory of it all he keeps
