Front and Center
I count on you, depend on you
You let me down, I defended you.
I stand ashamed, berated and scared
In front of the crowd, feeling naked and bare.
I scarce know you, nor you know me
You were supposed to be my team.
I put in my all, I try to succeed
But you were the missing piece that I need.
I call, but you don’t hear a ring
I wave, but you don’t see a thing.
I’m crying out; dignity eclipsed
As my fear and my insides fall out from my lips.
Shaking, nervous, I stare at the floor
I offer my all, as they pry for more.
Barely breathing, I walk from the center
You left me alone, my silent tormentor.
