Goodbyes
What is a goodbye if not a sad sight,
To me it’s become a process so trite,
It doesn’t get easier any day of the week,
My current outlook on the situation is bleak,
I’m grateful to those I’ve met over the months in San Diego,
To see you all leave is to feel as though I’m marooned alone on Tobago,
I can’t begin to recall all my favorite memories,
Like a woman going through the closet picking out her favorite accessories,
My only joy is the thought of seeing you all again in the future,
The only thing that can mend a broken heart besides a suture,
Who knows where life will go from here,
I’ll say goodbye with a smile as I choke back a tear.
