Oh, To Fly

My heart is beating fast
When I look up in your face
Flushed and grinning
Beaming like a child
You giggle a little when you ask
"Would you rather have flight
Or invisibility?"
The age old question
But looking at you now
I don't feel the same way I did
With my friends in kindergarten
Because I used to answer invisibility
But now
Oh, to fly
To fly through up to the sky
So I can see the stars
The way they look in your eyes
Oh, to fly up in a tree
Where I can carve our names
In a place only birds can see
Oh, to fly up to heaven
To thank God for making someone like you
Love someone like me
Oh, to fly over oceans
As vast as my adoration
For your laugh and smile and soul
Oh, to fly to the moon
So I know you look my way
Every night in wonder and awe
Oh, to fly with you in my arms
Away from the broken world
Into clouds as soft as your heart
Oh, to fly to the sun
And bring back a little bit of its warmth
For you to hold on rainy days
And understand the way you make me feel
You sit there staring at me
Waiting for my answer
All I can do is give you a little smile
"Oh, to fly."
