Sage

Have you ever wondered why
you felt the need to cry
when you hear the caged bird’s songs?
It’s because she sings of where she belongs.
She sings of her life and her own paradise.

She sings of the blue sky
where other birds often fly.
She sings of all her friends
the flocks of birds that never ends.
She sings of the doves, cuckoos, and pigeons
and all the different religions

She sings of the crows, creepers, and nuthatches
and when an egg hatches.
She sings of the wagtails, pipits, and lurks
and pet store clerks.
She sings of warblers, dippers, and albatrosses
and flying overseas.

She sings of penguins, pelicans, and auks
and many different dukes.
She sings of waders, terns, and gulls
and beaches covered in seashulls.
She sings of herons, egrets, and flamingos
and where every bird goes.

She sings of all the birds she cannot name,
even the birds of game.
She sings of home
and doesn’t want to be trapped in this dome.
She was never meant to be caged
and her name is Sage.

This Poems Story

This speaks about the rights of animals ,since they were born that way. how would you feel if your freedom was taken away ,and you were placed in a cage? We speak of equal rights for all ,but never once did we consider those of animals.
