Stars Already Burned Up
I can wear socks and oversized t-shirts
Have spaghetti and watch my favorite shows
Write a world into existence with a cat on my lap
Catch a quick ride to hang out with my best friends
Stare out the window as fields of cows roll past
Get emotional listening to music and reading books
Watch the rain from my front porch
Eat a handful of fresh strawberries
Look up at the moon
And wonder what it's like to feel so weightless
But I don't have to feel ashamed
That I will never know
That I don't have what it takes to walk on the skies
It doesn't keep me down
Because I'm here right now with so many great things
So many amazing people
Such a breathtaking life
There are fantasies you are meant to part with
And dreams you were destined to wake up from
There are stars we see in the night
Already burned up and dead
By the time they reach out eyes
Does it make them less beautiful?
Sometimes a goal is just
Something to give you the motion
And it was never in reach at all
That's just fine
I'll smile and wave and say goodbye
Like I was always meant to do
And I won't worry about what could have been
Because I don't even have to look beyond the galaxies
To find someone with a fantasy
That looks just like my life
Have spaghetti and watch my favorite shows
Write a world into existence with a cat on my lap
Catch a quick ride to hang out with my best friends
Stare out the window as fields of cows roll past
Get emotional listening to music and reading books
Watch the rain from my front porch
Eat a handful of fresh strawberries
Look up at the moon
And wonder what it's like to feel so weightless
But I don't have to feel ashamed
That I will never know
That I don't have what it takes to walk on the skies
It doesn't keep me down
Because I'm here right now with so many great things
So many amazing people
Such a breathtaking life
There are fantasies you are meant to part with
And dreams you were destined to wake up from
There are stars we see in the night
Already burned up and dead
By the time they reach out eyes
Does it make them less beautiful?
Sometimes a goal is just
Something to give you the motion
And it was never in reach at all
That's just fine
I'll smile and wave and say goodbye
Like I was always meant to do
And I won't worry about what could have been
Because I don't even have to look beyond the galaxies
To find someone with a fantasy
That looks just like my life

In honor of National Space Week, and my most recent reading of Project Hail Mary, why not a little motivational poem with those themes? I\'ll never be an astronaut who steps on the moon, but I can be a poet who writes about her in ways no one\'s ever seen.
