The memory you cannot bury

The hours take flight like geese to the south, While you weave your webs with a lying mouth. You play with my heart, you play with my head, Wishing for silence, wishing me dead. But should I surrender, should I succumb, That is the victory you’d claim as won. You turn me to vapor, a chill in the air, A ghost in the room, ignored by your stare. Your stare is a winter, a frost-bitten sting, That settles wherever your presence may cling. My spirit is broken, my light turns to gray, As tears from my eyes drum the rhythm of day. My love is a tide that refuses to break, But you are the wall, the crush and the ache. You see that I’m frayed, you see that I’m worn, You watch as my spirit is tattered and torn. You haven’t the courage to speak what is true, To say you have moved on, that we are all through. You leave me behind in the rearview light, To fade in the shadows, lost in the night. My heart lies abandoned on floors cold as stone, A victim of curses you leave me to own. Your words are the blades that ensure I will bleed, Your actions the poison that sows every seed. I am but a flash, a blurred déjà vu, A haunt in the memory lingering with you. Was I ever real? Was I ever your own? Or just a nightmare you’ve left all alone? Each piece of my being, now shattered and glass, Like shards in the wall where the tragedies pass. I lie here in fragments, scattered and small, Lost in the wreckage, behind every wall. I am not the shadow, I am not the ghost, I am the memory that hurts you the most. The truth is a fire you cannot contain, And I am the storm that will wash out your reignYou built up your castle of silence and lies, But you cannot hide from the look in my eyes. The weight of your secrets will pull you to ground,While I rise above, and my voice will be found. You thought you could bury the love that I give, But I am the reason you struggle to live.My heart is the anchor, my spirit the light,And I am the dawn that will swallow your night.
