Bitter Banquet
Silver platters, gleaming bright,
Hide decay beneath the light.
Goblets brimming, ruby deep,
Yet poison lulls the guests to sleep.
Laughter echoes, hollow, thin,
A masquerade of silk and sin.
Words like honey, thick with guile,
Lace the tongue yet rot the smile.
Candles flicker, casting doubt,
Shadows slink and coil about.
Behind each toast, a dagger waits,
A banquet served on shattered plates.
Feast, my friend, on empty grace,
The aftertaste—bitter embrace.
Hide decay beneath the light.
Goblets brimming, ruby deep,
Yet poison lulls the guests to sleep.
Laughter echoes, hollow, thin,
A masquerade of silk and sin.
Words like honey, thick with guile,
Lace the tongue yet rot the smile.
Candles flicker, casting doubt,
Shadows slink and coil about.
Behind each toast, a dagger waits,
A banquet served on shattered plates.
Feast, my friend, on empty grace,
The aftertaste—bitter embrace.

Background: Deception, false appearances, and the hidden cost of excess. This poem depicts a grand feast, where indulgence masks decay. It symbolizes the corruption of wealth, the facades people wear, and the illusion of prosperity. While the banquet appears lavish, the undercurrent of poison and betrayal hints at moral decay. This could represent societal hypocrisy, toxic relationships, or even self-deception where beauty and luxury hide something rotten.
