Souls of the RMS Titanic

The sea lay breathless, dark as sin—
A silent specter, luring in
A beast of steel, so proud, so tall,
Yet Fate had carved its final call.

“Unsinkable,” they dared declare,
A boast flung careless through the air,
Yet whispers wove through hallowed halls—
Did echoes of their doom enthrall?

No moon to mark the frozen tide,
No beacon where the shadows hide,
Just glacial fangs in spectral rest,
A phantom’s blade against her breast.

A shuddered gasp, a splitting seam,
The rupture ripped apart the dream.
A silver palace, crowned with light,
Now severed, sundered, lost to night.

The band played on, though death drew near,
Soft requiems to hush the fear.
With trembling hands and weary bows,
They wove their fate in solemn vows.

Fathers kissed the hands of fate,
Let mothers flee, embraced their weight.
A husband’s last goodbye still lingers—
A fleeting touch, dissolving fingers.

Panic clawed through decks and doors,
A wailing choir, fate implores.
Lifeboats keened with burdened breath—
Who lives, who drowns, who kneels to death?

The captain stood, the helm his tomb,
A steadfast gaze, resigned to doom.
With steel resolve, he met the deep—
His soul now bound where lost ones sleep.

Two halves wept, their marrow torn,
The bow to blackened silence sworn.
The stern upraised, one final cry—
A titan bowed beneath the sky.

Now rusted bones in ebon keep,
A graveyard where the spirits weep.
Their echoed laughter, whispered calls,
Dwell soft in sunken, sacred halls.

Shoes unwalked and locks unturned,
Time-worn trinkets, love interned.
A tragedy in frozen slumber,
A dirge that history shall remember.

Here lies grandeur, hubris crowned,
A dream defied, a kingdom drowned.
To souls embraced in ocean’s hold,
We weave our prayers, your tale retold.

This Poems Story

Background: \"Souls of the RMS Titanic\" is a poignant and haunting poetic tribute to the tragic sinking of the RMS Titanic on April 15, 1912. The poem encapsulates the grandeur, hubris, and ultimate demise of a vessel once deemed “unsinkable,” emphasizing the eerie foreboding that surrounded its maiden voyage. The poem paints vivid imagery of that fateful night a calm sea, a moonless sky, and an iceberg lying in silent ambush. It delves into the chaos that ensued once disaster struck, depicting the passengers’ desperate struggle for survival, the musicians’ final melodies as they played to their deaths, and the unwavering bravery of fathers, husbands, and the captain, who chose to perish with the ship. Through metaphors and personification, the Titanic itself is portrayed as a fallen titan, split in agony and consumed by the abyss, where it now rests as a sunken graveyard. The final verses acknowledge how the wreck, along with its lost souls and relics, lingers as a somber reminder to the world, a testament to human ambition and mortality. This poem serves not only as a tribute to those who perished but also as a lasting elegy to a tragedy that remains etched in history, reminding us of the fragility of even the grandest of dreams.
