Divide & Conquer

They built a bridge to span the void,
But chasms deep will not avoid
The weight of words that echo loud,
A breach concealed beneath a shroud.

A single whisper—serpent’s hiss—
To cleave a union sealed with bliss.
The seeds of doubt take root, expand,
Until the heart’s a barren land.

Divide them, conquer—lawless creed,
Let fear and pride be sown as seed.
The war is waged in silent breath,
A bond dissolved, a love’s slow death.

Yet in the fracture, wisdom gleams,
Through ash and fire rise broken dreams.
For every blade that cleaves apart,
There blooms anew a stalwart heart.

This Poems Story

Background: This poem explores the ancient strategy of division as a tool for control both in warfare and relationships. Drawing from the allegorical serpent in the Garden of Eden, it examines how whispers of doubt, fear, and pride can corrode even the strongest bonds. The poem moves beyond the literal and delves into abstract psychological and emotional battles, showing how division leads to destruction but can also birth growth and resilience. The duality of destruction and renewal serves as the central theme, making it a reflection on both the fragility and strength of human connections.
